Byblos - Jbeil oldest city of the world
A story by Patrick
35 km north of Beirut I visited the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, which traces back to the Neolithic period around 5000 ... and man, I`m talking about before Christ!
It was here where the Phoenicians invented the first alphabet, the famous Sarcophagus of Ahiram shows the oldest inscription using a modern alphabet (10th century BC).
It is amazing to see how the Arabic and Latin alphabet until now demonstrate the initial Phoenician characters (just turn the characters around a bit...)
It`s a very small and romantic coastal city with stone pavements, old souks (markets) and many little cafes and restaurants, absolutely a must visit while in Lebanon and just an hour away from Beirut.

Fishing Port
The little fishing port in Byblos is the perfect place to have lunch and enjoy the fresh breeze, have a good Lebanese coffee (it is exactly the same as Turkish Coffee) and if you feel a bit hall of fame than pass by the Byblos Fishing Club - Pepe Restaurant....|
